Pete the Cat is the cool blue and totally groovy creation by James Dean. The illustrator and creator has had some help along the way with the fun dialog of the stories partnering with Eric Litwin and Kimberly Dean.
Children love Pete the Cat, and so do teachers and parents. These books are a series that kids love to read over and over. These recommendations are only a partial list of the many books and resources that are available today. This post is a good start for anyone looking to introduce their children to Pete the Cat.
The selections are by month and have some suggested activities to share with your students. The Pete the Cat website has a lot of FREE suggestions and fun activities as well. Enjoy!

Pete the Cat Snow Daze
There are many different places where children live. If you live in a cooler climate where there is the potential for snow, reading “Pete the Cat: Snow Daze” would be a definite book. Here is an online reading of the book, to see if this might be a book to bring into the classroom or home library.
This is a cute book even if you live in a warmer climate, it is still fun to learn about snow days. Whether you are stuck in the house for a snow day or you are simply enjoying Pete’s adventures, this freebie from the Lego Librarian over at Teacher Pay Teacher is perfect for making a Pete the Cat headband.

Pete the Cat Valentines Day is Cool!
Happy Valentine’s Day! What better book to share with kids during the season of love. The title of the book for February is “Pete the Cat: Valentine’s Day is Cool” and it pretty much begs to be read! Here is an online reading of the book for your convenience.
Next, and after reading the book and discussing the concepts in the book, I recommend this freebie from Artful Expressions Speech Therapy. This can be used in the classroom as a center or as an extension to any homeschool program. Simply print, cut and sort.

Pete the Cat The Great Leprechaun Chase
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! Yes, this is the month of the Irish and Pete the Cat is a mission to catch a leprechaun in the book “Pete the Cat: The Great Leprechaun Chase.” Pete the Cat books have a lesson to be told in them and it usually involves being a good friend, helper and more. This book is no exception.
This FREEBIE is from ImpecAKAbleSpeech. Kids will like filling out the cause and effect worksheet. Younger kids can draw the effect, and older kids can look through the book for the words and onto the sheet. There is also a concepts/ordinal numbers sheet for additional practice. As with most free products if your child really likes the book there is more for purchase from the Teacher Pay Teacher teachers.

Pete the Cat Big Easter Adventure
Kids will like to have the book on hand to read over and over. However, teachers and parents can set up a learning play list for an iPad or computer to include an online reading of the book. There are many other videos that coordinate with the book and the packet. Simply pick and choose the topics your kids are interested in exploring.

Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses
As the weather begins to be very pleasant taking a walk is fun. This is what Pete the Cat is doing in the book “Pete the Cat And his Magic Sunglasses.” Here is an online version for you and the kids. If they really like this book, I recommend highly to have in your classroom. Kids will read this over and over.
Here is a free download to teach “A Lesson on Perspective and Looking on the Bright Side” by, Creative Counselor. Here is an excerpt from the directions “Objective: To help students see the good things around them and focus on the positive. Assist with emotional regulations and resiliency.” Kids will have fun with this and when they are finished they should feel positive.
Pete the Cat and the Treasure Map
Pete the Cat and the Treasure Map is a perfect end of the year book. Pete and the gang receive a treasure map from a parrot and embark on a treasure hunt to Secret Island.
Treasure Map: Social Studies and Simple Coding Skills
This can be used with any map lesson plan, or as a supplemental to a read aloud book about maps or pirate treasure. I have used this concept and map hunts over the years. I recommend Pete the Cat and the Treasure Map as an introduction to this activity.

Pete the Cat and His four Groovy Buttons
Happy June! During our 12 months of exploring Pete, “Pete the Cat and His four Groovy Buttons” is a must. In June the weather pleasant and at the end of the book Pete sees his belly button, thank goodness it was not January when he lost his buttons!
This freebie is geared towards Pre-K and Kindergarten students. Darcie Nicole Designs created a help Pete the Cat find his buttons. Once kids trace the lines older students might want to take it one step further and practice their scissor skills. Cute!
Pete the Cat and the Perfect Pizza Party!
This book is perfect for an end of the year pizza party, or for any summertime fun!
Check out this Sight Word Pizza Party activity. It is filled with pre-primer and primer sight words. Children create their own pizza as they pick a sight word from the pile. Add a chef’s hat to add a little dramatic play into their learning, FUN!
The sight words included in the activity are the same words used in “Pete the Cat and the Pizza Party.” Watch children build confidence as they learn their sight words. They will notice the speed in which they read as they master these common words.

Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes
This book is perfect for the month of July. Many areas around the United States are harvesting both strawberries and blueberries, and both are in this book. Perhaps parents might consider taking the kids on a field trip to pick blueberries, and then complete the following lessons.

In the book, Pete steps in a pile of blueberries and his shoes become blue. I do love this book and I don’t want to take away from the author, however, there is a good lesson to be learned about blueberries. Would Pete’s shoes really turn super blue if he stepped in blueberries with white shoes?

How to draw Pete the Cat. This video is an instructional video that kids can follow along as they learn how to draw Pete the Cat. Rob from Art for Kids Hub is kind, patient and funny. Kids love him. I have used his videos and guidance in all my years of teaching (well only since I found his YouTube Channel several years ago).
Older kids can usually follow along with ease. Younger children will need some adult guidance to pause the video, as to let them catch up with the lesson. This is great for one on one instruction with a laptop. It is also perfect for sharing with the use of a Smartboard in the classroom. Enjoy!

Pete the Cat Scuba-Cat
August is the perfect time for Scuba-Cat Pete to explore the ocean.
These hand drawn cuties resemble the characters in “Pete the Cat Scuba-Cat.” They can be used for a number of crafts or activities. Kids can color, cut and paste on some blue construction paper. They can even drawn themselves into the picture. Kids love to make books and this could be another option to have them create their own version of the story. Add to a journal, reflection paper, make a math game, the possibilities are endless. This freebie is from SpeechFairies.

Back to School and “Pete the Cat Rocking in My School Shoes” is the perfect book for the first days of school. Especially for new teachers.

These pages includes options for five different activities for teachers and parents to utilize while lesson planning. Your class will enjoy doing both a Pete the Cat Glyph and a game of Bingo. Parents who download this freebie can modify to a students needs.

Pete the Cat Trick or Pete
Happy Halloween! Even as an adult I love Halloween. This book is perfect to share with kids. It is important to teach kids about Halloween safety, too!
Here is a free coloring sheet for students to color reading “Pete the Cat Trick or Pete.”. It is not exactly Pete specific and kids can draw there own Pete if they choose to do so. This picture does have a ghost that looks a little like grandma’s costume, and the scenery is similar. The color by site word is an activity most children enjoy. It goes well as a follow up to the reading and was created by Cupcakes and Craftastrophies.

Pete the Cat The First Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving! This book is GREAT! It teaches more than a social lesson. There are so many points about the Pilgrims and the First Thanksgiving. This book and online reading is a wonderful primer to learning about some American History facts.
This freebie will actually pair perfectly with any of the Pete the Cat books. I decided to share this download with you for the “Pete the Cat: The First Thanksgiving” because history should be taken a little more academic, and kids will have fun. This book buddy has five different comprehension activities and is wonderful for differentiation. The Teacher’s Lounge did a nice job and this is perfect for a classroom teacher or a homeschool curriculum.

Pete the Cat Saves Christmas
Merry Christmas! As the year comes to an end and children all over the world become excited for Santa to arrive on Christmas Eve. “Pete the Cat Saves Christmas” is a wonderful book to share with children, as Pete the Cat becomes the holiday hero.
This sight word center is contains pre-primer and primer sight words. It is fun for homeschool and classroom practice. Kids love centers, it’s like play time. The sight words in this center are the same words included in “Pete the Cat Saves Christmas.” Using this activity will help children to become more confident in their reading as they notice their progress as they master sight words.
