Animals on the Hour
24 Hours of Animals
Welcome to the STEMHAX blog. Today we explore Animals on the Hour. The focus of this reader is to reinforce the concept of time on the hour. This can be used with any time/clock lesson. Animals on the Hour crosscuts several academic disciplines including math, science, language arts and technology (YouTube read aloud). It also meets Common Core CCSS.Math.Content.1.MD.B.3.
Overview
Children love animals and are curious about how they live and what they do. The reader features 24 different animals around the clock. The focus of the book is time on the hour with an analog clock and some familiar animals. The YouTube video features real footage of these animals. This blog post features 24 additional short videos, fun facts, or ideas to extend the lessons about each of the animals in the booklet. All videos were carefully curated to be age appropriate and informative, but as always, preview any media before sharing with children.

Thank You
I spent many hours researching videos. My goal is to save you precious time from researching. As teachers we never know where our students will want to go with learning. Please watch videos beforehand, as a refresher, and then you can use them as a quick reference. If you downloaded the Animals on the Hour packet, you can choose which videos to watch by randomly pulling one of the task cards. Since there is never enough time in the schedule, you might send home this blog as a homework assignment. Have students pick three animals to write a trivia question or fun fact to share with the class.
