Skip Counting by Tens
Ten, twenty, thirty, forty…skip counting by tens is fun for kids. Young learners can get behind the concept of taking a shortcut when it comes to math. Some kids fall in love with math and other children are frustrated and despise the thought of having to compute anything mathematical. As educators if we can expose children to fun ways of learning even the simplest ways of learning math concepts, it will help ease the pain of learning as math becomes more advanced.
This post is filled with FREE content for helping young learners about the fun we can have with skip counting by tens. As a matter of fact there are over 15 resources and as I find worthy resources, I will update this post. The following resources are some that I have used and are tried and true, and others I have discovered as part of researching for this post. There are always new content being created and it is important to research for the next best. As I researched online books on YouTube,I did not find any worthy of sharing. I researched some books, ordered them, and then did a recording on my YouTube channel for your convenience.
Toasty Toes Counting by Tens
“Toasty Toes Counting by Tens” is a cute book where kids take a look at all the sets toes on a beach. The book was written by Michael Dahl.
Chicka, Chicka 1-2-3
“Chicka, Chicka 1-2-3” is a nice introduction book for counting and includes, by tens. Another great book written by Bill Martin, Jr., Michael Sampson and Lois Ehlert. Kompelien.
Plenty of Petals Counting by Tens
“Plenty of Petals” is written by Michael Dahl and Illustrated by Zachary Trover. This lovely book is counting by tens in reverse. Finn the Bear is leaving the hospital after he breaks his leg skateboarding in the house. He is leaving with ten daisies in a vase. Each of the daisies has ten petals. Finn gives flowers to people he meets and one by one he has ten less petals in the vase. This book is no longer in print, however you can find a used copy on any used bookstore online.
Leaping Lizards
Leaping Lizards is a cute book that shows kids there is more than one way to count large numbers. If kids are a little familiar with skip counting they will enjoy this counting book about lizard entertainers. “Leaping Lizards” was written by Stuart J. Murphy and is part of the Mathstart series from Harper Collins Publishers.
Online Videos
The next selections are some tried and true videos found on YouTube. As a teacher and a homeschool auntie, I have found that it is not always trust worthy to just let playlists run without watching before sharing with the little ones. If you enjoy these selections please consider adding this blog post to your favorites for easy access.
Peg and Cat Count by Tens
Peg and Cat are collecting rocks for NASA and they are using trays that will hold ten rocks for easy counting by tens. This is a cute little video to use as an introduction for some hands on rock counting. Dollar store rocks, little containers and lots of fun!
Counting Money – Learn by Counting by 10’s with Dimes
Kids who like animals will enjoy this fun video about how to learn to count money with dimes. Values of money are in cents and dollar variations. Video made by Hey! Guess What?
Skip Counting by 10s – Elementary Concepts for Kids
This video is from Periwinkle YouTube Channel about skip counting by tens. The influence is mostly on number lines.
Skip Counting by 10 for Kids
The little girl needs to have 100 flowers on the table for the party. Young Learners will appreciate the slow pace of this video.

The first video is sure to be one your kids favorites from Scratch Garden. This is also a wonderful filler, when you have a few minutes before lunch or a special. Kids will request to watch this one over and over.

Count by 10’s
This is a video from Pinkfong about counting by tens. It has a rock and roll theme and kids will enjoy the beat.
Count Together by 10’s
We love brain breaks for kids. This video created by Jack Hartmann is perfect if you are learning to count by tens. Climb that mountain faster and faster!
Printable Resources
